Over one billion people in the world are living with a disability. Almost 1 in 10 are children. 90% are not in school. There is a lack of accessible infrastructure, strategies, teacher training, and learning materials for inclusive education. In low- and lower middle-income countries, around 40% of children with disabilities are out of school at primary level and 55% at lower secondary level.
Children with disabilities are at significantly increased risk of violence compared to children without disabilities. Millions of children with disabilities are invisible because of insufficient data. This means it’s often unclear how many children with disabilities are out of school, the reasons for their absence, and the barriers they face. In many countries there is insufficient knowledge on disability. Hence also, inclusive education and how children with disabilities can be effectively included in education sector planning and in school.

TrusteeWe believe the strength of an organisation lies partly in its ability to learn from its experience and to feed that learning into improved practice, and as we work with our partners for independence, equality and opportunity for disabled people, we are committed to embedding learning into every facet of our work.
We believe in holistic interventions that target inclusion in schools by taking a student centred, systematic approach to inclusive education. We understand that a child is a social being and their life trajectories are influenced not only by their schooling but outside factors that together may influence a child's educational outcomes.
